Vines and microclimate

Platinum comes from a terroir situated in the centre of the D.O.Ca. Rioja appellation, in the foothills of Monte Laturce. It was planted 40 years ago and consists of a large number of different varieties among which we should mention in particular malvasia and white garnacha. Average yield from these vines is 4000 kg/Ha. Their unusual location on a hilltop with a north-south orientation is a treasure from the point of view of vine growing. The height of the vineyard is 650 metres. The local wind, the ever-present cierzo, has a cooling effect on the vines and delays maturation, as well as ensuring the absence of endemic diseases.
Average anual production: around 1000 bottles.

Tasting Notes

Golden yellow colour, of new, very clean and shiny gold. Lots of thick tears. Medium to high intensity of aromas. A sweet, complex nose which opens up slowly. It reveals a rich array of aromas in which white flowers and jasmine, and fruity aromas of quince and baked apples stand out alongside spicy hints of bay leaf, vanilla and coconut. A dry, balanced wine. Round and syrupy. Long on the palate with an intense retronasal effect and smooth sweet tannin from the ageing on the lees.

Ageing: 2 months ageing on the lees and 3 months in American-oak barre.
